Felice Eckhouse

Owner, MA, OTR/L, CAPS

Felice Eckhouse is a Gerontologist, Occupational Therapist, and Certified Aging in Place Specialist. She has received her Masters degree in Gerontology from Northeastern Illinois University and her Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Illinois. The National Association of Home Builders granted her the Certified Aging in Place Specialist.

Felice has worked with older adults in the Chicago Metropolitan area for more than 30 years helping countless seniors and their families improve the safety and comfort of their homes to enable them to live there longer.

Felice is extremely passionate about the built environment and how it plays a role in one’s health and well being.

In addition to her professional qualifications, Felice is also a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a mother-in-law and a compassionate listener with a wealth of resources to help address your unique situation. She uses her relationships and experiences to modify living spaces for older adults and design new spaces with builders, architects and planners.

Professional Affiliations & Community Involvement

As a couple in our late 80’s, we realized that to stay in our current home, we’d need some adaptations for our disabilities. We contacted Felice and Elderspaces to provide a trained and experienced set of eyes. She offered information about simple changes, as well as more extensive projects to modify our home. She sent a followup report with contact information for resources. This was very helpful and significant for adapting our current home in our elder years.

Perennials and Aging

You may notice a pop of perennials throughout our site and may be asking, “what does this have to do with aging”?

Perennials are flowers and plants that grow and return season after season. They need care, and sometimes they struggle to be at their best. This is similar to what happens to us as we age. When perennials are living in the right conditions, they thrive.

We are called “Old People”, but perhaps we should be called Perennials or even Poppies, because we generally bounce back season after season.
